Spurs will win the 25/26 NBA Championship
I am putting all my money and support behind the San Antonio Spurs for the 2025/2026 NBA Championship (the team I support didn't make the playoffs)
Unfortunately, since I started properly watching the NBA, San Antonio Spurs has been a very average team. But everything changed in 2023 — with the first pick of the 2023 draft, the San Antonio Spurs draft Victor Wembanyama.
Victor "The Alien" Wembanyama is unlike anything the league has ever seen. This isn't about the height, the league has seen exceptionally tall players, neither is it about his wingspan, but about what this kid could do. His game doesn't fit into the regular "tall NBA player" stereotype, he's built different.
I remember watching his first game in the league in my room back then in Uni. I wouldn't miss it for the world. You'd think this kid would be a regular run and dunk merchant because of his height and agility, but no. His first point in the NBA was a 3-pointer. The first bucket of a 7'4 basketball player was from beyond the arc, first attempt, first bucket, he just pulled up from outside the paint like it was nothing. It was at that moment I knew the league was done for. Everyone should start packing, there's a new general in town.
Fast forward to the 25/26 NBA Playoffs, he has taken a team that was below average and made them a title contender. The Spurs are now a force to reckon with. They won 60+ games in a season for the first time in a very long time, while also having a 4-1 H2H record against the defending champions, Oklahoma City Thunder, that's more than impressive
My favourite type of Superstars are precisely not the ball hoggers, but the ones who make the team play better just by being on the court, that's Wemby. He has transformed the team both physically and mentally, and that being said, the San Antonio front office have done a wonderful job by getting the right players who understands their roles and execute it well.
Now we're at the 25/26 post season and they just blew out the Timberwolves by 38 points to level the series 1-1, and I just can't help but say, this is the team I am rooting for to win the NBA Championship.
Wembayanma has become one of my favourite players to watch. A 7'4 player shouldn't be interesting to watch because 9/10 times you know what they will do when they need to get buckets, but not Wemby. If you give him space thinking he's always going to drive to the paint, he'll punish you for it and if you think you can stop him from getting to the paint also, he's going to show you he has great handling and movement. I don't even need to talk about his defense, it's ridiculous. And the scariest part is that he hasn't even gotten to his prime
When all is said and done, I'm boldly saying it, his name would be among the GOATs, but first, let's win this chip.
